Sarah has written two excellent posts about homeschooling. They made me think about my own experience home educating my children all these years. Seth will be twenty-one in a few weeks. He is in the top 1% of his class in college. My son Zach has worked and volunteered for years, and at eighteen is just beginning to pursue higher education. My other three children are still under my tutelage. Homeschooling has been the most natural thing to do--as natural as nurturing them for the first five years of their lives. Every year has just been a continuation of that. No special knowledge was ever needed. The first thing most people say when they find out that I home educate my children is, "Wow, I could never do that!" But, they could; they really could, because it hasn't been hard (neither has it been easy!). It has just been living and learning together like always.

I wish I could walk my cat like that, too! Seeing that little angel deep in the woods was really special. Sometimes people leave little things like that. The best thing I ever saw in the woods was a little nativity in the hollow base of a tree near Christmas time. It was the kind of thing that you would miss if you weren't looking. I wonder how many times I passed that angel without seeing it?
DeleteI've loved your photos lately, such abundant colour. Thank you for mentioning my article; I agree with you, homeschooling feels so natural. It feels like the right way, the way it ought to be for everyone. Not necessarily mum teaching, but home-based or community-based education rather than warehousing children. I believe this very strongly - but one has to be so careful these days with what one says.

DeleteMmmm. So well said. I have a daughter in law to be who is saying, "I don't think I could do that." My son is praying for God's direction for her as he has always known that he would home educate his kids... If only everyone could understand that yes, it IS natural and wonderful.

I am so glad that we are friends, and so glad that you and my friend Kortney have made a connection, too. I love when the internet works this way--as a tool to bring good hearts together in encouragement and friendship and to share ideas. ♥♥♥
DeleteOne of the best thing about homeschooling is that Homeschoolers have access to the best teaching materials available. And, teaching materials can be selected based on a child's individual needs and capabilities.
