Cats and Ghosts

Indiana Jones -- not quite two years old
Willow -- twelve years old
These are our two cats.♥ Indie does not like to be up high, which I think is unusual for a cat. Willow spends most of her time sleeping atop my desk (where Edna the naughty Doberman puppy can't bother her). She has a dirty nose because she's always sticking it in my houseplants.

My Monday was filled with laundry, school lessons, bill paying, rounds of knitting, a few laughs with the kids, lots of October sunshine, bluejays on the feeder, and grilled chicken fajitas with rice and beans for supper. It was a good day, but last night I had a bad dream that brought back an old ghost I thought I was long rid of. Damn thing haunted me all day.

When we first got married, I had a cat named Mr. Higgins. We could tell he saw things that we couldn't see. He would look up as he walked through one of our doorways and move to the side as if something was standing in his way. And, he used to sit at the closet door, tail swishing, meowing as if something (or someone) was in there. My husband used to laugh and say that it was a ghost.

It kinda scared me.

  1. I don't believe in ghosts, which is kind of funny considering how many haunted houses I've lived in! But you see, I don't believe in linear time either, and I think ghosts are just glimpses into different layers of time. I wonder if some animals, especially cats, perceive time in a different way from us, and therefore see "ghosts". Your cats are lovely :-)

    1. Very interesting! I do believe in ghosts, but I think they may be something else entirely. Maybe I'll write a post about it. : )

  2. Frodo hears things that we never do and is insistent that someone's there. Kind of scares me at times, especially if I'm alone :)

    1. My old dog Buddy used to do that. He would get up in the middle of the night and start growling and acting as if someone was around the house. So creepy!

Gosh, I miss my old Bud.

  3. Yes, I think that would be a bit unnerving.

  4. yesterday Mabel woke crying from a dream. we talked about how real and unreal dreams are, how they catch hold of us.

your Monday sounded just about perfect--old ghosts not withstanding.

    1. I hate bad dreams, and I always feel sorry for my children when they have them. Poor Mabel! I hope she had a good day after her dream.

Dreams are strange things. We don't even remember most of them, but some of them do "catch hold of us" (I like how you put that : ) .

  5. Our Snicket and Priscilla (now passed) often look to the staircase in our house. A clairvoyant who was here told us that a woman who lived here previously likes to hang around and see a family enjoying what was once her space; I don't know, but I like to think it's true and that they are looking at her. Energies don't scare me as much as frustrate me. I wish we could sit down for a cup of tea and trade stories!

    1. Tara, I would LOVE to sit and drink tea with you and swap stories.♥ I like the name "Snicket"--that's a good name for a cat.

These energies, spirit beings, I think they are around us all the time--some of them do frustrate us.
