Knitting + Reading

So, I'm knitting a garter stitch tube. Round upon round of alternating knit and purl rows. The hand painted baby alpaca yarn I'm using is soft and squishy and a delight to handle. But, I don't know if I made the right decision for it. A garter stitch tube? Why? I don't know. I don't know. I thought it would make a cool, simple, shawlie thing, but now I'm wondering if I'm committing a sin with gorgeous yarn that deserves better than this.

I've almost finished The Woman In White--one of the best, most entertaining books I have ever read.  I am also reading short stories out of one of my son's college readers--two a week. So far, I've read stories by: Ambrose Bierce, Raymond Carver, Willa Cather, Anton Chekhov, William Faulkner, Charlotte Perkins Gillman, D.H. Lawrence, Herman Melville, Frank O'Connor, John Steinbeck, James Thurber, John Updike, Alice Walker, and Eudora Welty. My favorite story so far was Bartelby, The Scrivener, by Herman Melville. I understand now why my son is smarter than I am. He reads better stuff.

Overnight it became cold. Elvis says it is a good day for cuddling. After our lessons today, we are going to pile into the car and head over to our garden center's free corn maze. It's small, but fun, and Luke loves it. We'll need hot chocolate after that, I think.

  1. The good thing about knitting is that you can always frog and reknit if you *really* don't like the finished project. But why not give it a chance... sometimes the simplest things are the prettiest. And that picture of Elvis is the cutest. Seriously. Have fun at the maize maze!

  3. It is gorgeous yarn. Finish it and if you don't like it you can always use the yarn for something else.

  4. Frodo says hi to Elvis, such a love bug. I don't think the yarn is wasted, garter stitch is so squishy soft and feels lovely while worn, keep knitting it!!
