I'm knitting a simple pair of self-striping socks in the colors of September: wild aster, goldenrod, and jewelweed orange. I'm just at the place to start the heel of the first sock. I'm going to do a short-row heel from leftover gold yarn, so as not to disturb the effect of the nice pretty stripes.
I'm reading Weird Massachusetts, which is part of a series of unusual travel guides--perhaps you can find one for your state. I am learning all kinds of interesting things and gathering lots of ideas for places to visit. It's very entertaining and a little creepy to know how many strange phenomena have occurred around here.
A bit unsetlling, isn't it? Our silly doberman pup likes to look at me through the kitchen window while I do the dishes. She's nine months old now and getting B I G.
What are you reading and making these days?
Joining Ginny in her weekly Yarn Along.

Not reading much these days, making lots, as you know. ;-) I've seen the Weird Virginia book and been to some of the places, like Foamhenge and the Octagon House.
ReplyDeleteThere is an old Octagon House in my husband's hometown in upstate New York. Foamhenge--sounds interesting!
DeleteYour dog looking in at the window is an oddity - if only he would just smile. :)
ReplyDeleteYour knitting is beautiful, as always.
Thank you! : )
DeleteI love the yarn, very September like. I like your reading too. I will have to look for Weird New York. There has to be one, don't you think?
ReplyDeleteThere is definitely a guide for Weird New York. Syracuse is my hometown. : ) My husband and I both grew up there.
DeleteThank you for the kind compliment.
I love the dog picture! Hilarious. Ours would totally do that if he could! He does it in my daughters play house...just sticks his big old head right in the window.
ReplyDeleteMy dogs make me laugh everyday. I don't think I could be happy without a dog in my life. : )
DeleteOh that sweet face!! My Frodo stares at me all the time, usually from the sofa :) great pair of socks perfect for the upcoming fall weather!!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny how they watch our every move? Can't wait to get these socks done--I've found another sock pattern that I am very eager to knit. It's free on Ravelry and is called Owlies.
DeleteYour dog is so cute I can't stand it! (I may have already used that exact comment here on another post before, but seriously... her expression is adorable!)
ReplyDeleteKnitting is something I really want to learn again. I used to know how (when I was a girl), but can't remember anything these days other than the instruction to "knit one, purl two." Your socks look warm and cozy.
I'm re-reading a book by Rosslyn Elliott called Sweeter than Birdsong (historical Christian fiction about the musician Ben Hanby).
Barb, thank you for saying such nice things about my pup. Not everyone has kind things to say about Dobermans. I really appreciate your comment!
DeleteYou should definitely try knitting again. It will be easier this time around--your hands and brain will remember. There are great videos on YouTube for learning every knitting skill from casting on to binding off.
Sweeter than Birdsong looks like a lovely book. I'm going to see if they have it in our library system. : )
FYI, Sweeter than Birdsong is part of a trilogy (and despite me complaining about trilogies on my blog recently, this is a series where I really enjoyed the first two books. The third was good, but I read it on my kindle and I can't seem to enjoy e-books in the same way as paper). Anyhow, if you're interested, I recommend starting with Fairer than Morning. The series follows the entire Hanby family.
DeleteHave a nice weekend,Susan. :)
Hi Barb, I just reserved Fairer Than Morning at my library. Thank you so much for the recommendation. : )
DeleteHave a great weekend.♥
Sweet Edna! She looks so... serious. Love the colorway on those socks. Fall-ish, but still bright and cheerful.
ReplyDeleteEdna is in a word: serious. In five words she's: serious, alert, watchful, athletic and obedient--the complete opposite of my pug Elvis who is hilarious, playful, and affectionate to the point of annoyance. : )
Delete"affectionate to the point of annoyance"... I love that! My Bebe in a nutshell. <3 So sweet that I don't have the heart to scold her, even when she is being quite the nuisance!
DeleteThat photo of Edna is a bit unsettling ... there is such an intense expression in her eyes :-) But she is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Edna is very watchful and intense; such is the nature of Dobermans. They are excellent watch dog and lovers of people.
